some thoughts on 'caprica'
first of all, before i get into spoilery territory inspired by the latest episode (from...a month and a half ago <.< ), i'd just like to say that this show is awesome. seriously. i mean, the pacing was kinda slow in the beginning and for some reason willie's plot threads seem to have vanished into the ether, but that's cool, i'm more interested in sam and joe on that end, anyway. basically, the only thing that could make the show more awesome at this point would be cameo appearances from other bsg characters who would've been alive at this point. like elosha! i think she's around now, and she'd certainly fit. or julius, i'd like to see what he was like as a young man. hell, give me bitty cain, that would be awesometastic.
anyway, onto the
so, some specific spoilery awesomenesses i'd like to blather about:
first, clarice's descent into darkness, and the way her family around her seems more and more sinister as she seems more and more sinister and badass 'cause she has gotten badass. and amanda spying on her is just a nice touch. especially the very believable lie she told marbeth to convince her to let her stay.
next, virtual!amanda. awesome in the questions she raises about personality and humanity and identity. because she was fairly convincing, until we realize that she is, in fact, an avatar built out of mostly other people's memories/journals and that begs the question of how much of who we are is founded in how other people see us. and it's awesome. ...though i think it's a liiiiiiiiiittle bit impossible that she survived her freaking dive off a bridge, but whatever. maybe there's a headperson keeping tabs on her.
speaking of headpersons. head zoe....who may or may not actually be a headperson, but she seems like one. best part is, she's manipulating/headpersoning herself. since she was a bitty ickle zoe. awesome!
and the last point i want to address is the fact that the first person we see actually using a cylon is freaking sam. what is it with this show and awesome guys named sam turning out to have ginormously signifiant cylon connections? also, it's a brilliant storytelling maneuver, to have bill adama's uncle be the first person (so far as we know) actually using a centurion as a soldier. sucks internally, o'course, but brilliant externally.
and in conclusion: caprica is awesome. you'll have to let it grow on you to enjoy it, but...let it grow on you. seriously. eventual payoff is so worth it.
also, spike/captain john hart was in it. he's all blowed up now, but he was there!
