Hugs and puppies and no Quadrangle of Why, that's what XD.
In all seriousness, despite how irksome he is, he does do important things from time to time, and not just in Crossroads, though that's an important one. For example, I'm pretty sure that him failing to pull a gun on Tigh at the end of S1 would have serious consequences. Like, if he doesn't do that, then he doesn't end up in the brig to tell Roslin that Adama got shot, which iirc (it's been a while since I watched the show, so I might be assuming more about that moment than actually happened) had a pretty strong impact on their relationship/partnership going forward? ETA: I mean the way she found out, obviously she would have found out eventually whether or not Lee was locked up with her. Basically, I think the military-civilian issues would have been a lot more tense for a lot longer, possibly even all the way up to the Cain arc, though hopefully another catalyst would have reshaped things before then.
I think eventually, almost definitely after Cain, things would settle down to something close to canon, though not 100%. I'd have to think deeper into the details to figure out where the ripples would be.
