whee, new semester
well, i'm at nova again, gmu didn't want me ::sads:: but my classes this semester are rather awesometastic ^^
Monday: Biology 102 lecture 1230-145 (bio is mostly ick, but i took 101 last semester so this was logical. it also took me for-freaking-ever to get into one that fit my other schedule that wasn't at 6:30am)
Japanese 101 730-950 suzuki-sensei is this awesome little old japanese lady who came here for grad school, got married, and settled in to teach. she even taught esl for a while, despite not being a native speaker. she said that was fun :) she's also insisting on teaching us hiragana in words, rather than as individual characters, which makes a lot of sense. 'course, we don't know what the words mean yet, but that will presumably come later. concerns about this class: my english handwriting is bad enough, i'm slightly scared about how legible my characters will be, especially ones like a and o which look pretty similar. also, she heartily disapproves of romanji, so i can't ever let her look at my notes. and she frowns on taking notes on paper in class, says we should be focusing on speaking and work on the writing homework for that. but she's awesome and the final project is a two-page paper about any aspect of japanese culture. i think i shall do onna/katsura mono (noh 'woman plays') because i remember liking those best when we covered noh in my theatre history class at wesleyan.
Tuesday: Chorus 1-215 we're doing a haydn mass for our first concert squee!
Psych 202 430-710 taking for largely the same reasons as bio 102, except this kind of actually interests me.
Wednesday: Bio 102 lecture 1230-145
Bio 102 lab 2-440. i get to redo the dissection lab i had to rush in high school due to orchestra trip. this'll be fuuuuuun~
Japanese 101 730-950
Thursday: Chorus 1-215
Gothic Literature 7-940 so i haven't actually had this class yet, but the reading list is Frankenstein, Dracula, Jeckyll and Hyde, Wuthering Heights, short fiction by King and Poe...basically a course in literary horror in english literature. would've preferred the science-fiction lit course, but this was an awesome second choice ^_^
Friday: History of Western Civilization 1 930-1220. this was actually my fourth-choice history course (the other three i wanted were sadly full when i finally gave in and registered after waiting for ages to hear from the four-year unis i was trying to transfer to). but i got cheated out of this in high school (tj is soooo sooper speshul that we get 'principles of engineering and technology' instead of history freshman year -_-;; ) so i am looking forward to it.
will post again on friday after taking history and lit.
this semester should be fun! if full ^^;;
