whee, i'm back!

hello, all! hope you had a merry christmas and a very happy new year ^_^ i took notes because i'm a dork, and i'm gonna post them here and make you suffer through them, too ^_^ beware, much tl;dr, often having to do with food, and also some ramblings about bsg. because i am such a dork that i go to tropical islands and watch a gritty drama about a post-apocalyptic space navy. yeah. :D

we left home at about 10am, me having had less than four hours of sleep 'cause i'm dumb, but that's largely irrelevant.

got to the (baltimore) harbor at 11, or thereabouts. theeeeeen we waited in a line to get in the parking lot. then we waited in a line to hand off our luggage. theeeen we waited in a line to pay for parking. then we waited in a line to get our passports checked, etc. then we waited in a line to get our keycards. then we waited (but not in a line!) until they were ready for us to board, which finally happened at around 1.

buffet on deck nine was nommy--had lo mein for lunch. was a bit spicy for my tastes, but whatever. then we explored for a bit until our staterooms were ready (me, sister, and brother sharing a room that's smaller than my bedroom at home (those of you who have been in my bedroom will know what that means), and my parents in another across the hall). then we hung out/wandered/whatever (i checked out the library. it sucks. ah, well, it has a desk i can hang out at).

then there was safety drill: "this is how you put on your lifejacket! if we have to abandon ship, listen to the qualified person in charge of your lifeboat! now go out into the snow to see where the lifeboats are!" all in all, about twenty minutes.

then all five of us got massages ::bliiiiiiiiiss::. first time for me. hot rock massage. awesome. yesh.

then dinner, which was very good. had linguine with italian sausage and vanilla creme brulee

then a bit more wandering, then i went and did karaoke. it was awesome :D i got to do two songs--love story (taylor swift, don't judge me it's catchy and easy to sing) and you may be right (billy joel) which was in a sliiiiightly awkward key, because it was either at the very bottom of my range, or, if i jumped the octave, right where i switch to head voice. soooo...yeah. that went well :D there was one guy who did a reeeeeeeally awesome 'what a wonderful world', and a very good rendition of 'respect.' most of the rest were kinda mediocre, but it was fun :D

and now i am chilling in the library, about to watch bsg: face of the enemy, aka let's pile all the shit we can on felix gaeta because he's clearly not broken enough :D :D :D because we're bsg and that's how we roll.

...i'm possibly mildly tipsy as i write this. there was free champagne earlier and i had two glasses plus a rum and diet coke at karaoke that i think might've been two shots, since i got the taller glass and it tasted really strong. ah well :D not like i have to be anywhere tomorrow!

speaking of tomorrow, plan is:

-watch the plan (lol)

-maybe get manicure and pedicure with mom, we haven't decided

-hopefully see a play, there weren't any tonight. if not, more karaoke 'cause it's fuuuuuuun.

-or possibly we'll do our girl's night (me, mom, and miranda are gonna go to the casino and play poker and drink fruity drinks and be silly at some point on the cruise :D dad thinks we're nuts)

-write some--goal is to get at least up to The Reveal in 'for sorrow sung', get a start on 'sky children' (working title for bsg/earth's children crossover), and work on 'in plain sight' and/or 'untitled itsu fic' and/or get back to 'cold' or 'san'. since i've got oodles of time on the boat. :D

-finish 'the disunited states of america'. anvilicious where turtledove usually is, but, as always, the concept for the alternate (in this case, the constitution was never ratified, so the north american continent is made up of a bunch of small nations. and virginia and ohio are at war) is interesting and he did think through the consequences intelligently (with some additions for Rule of Drama, but still), and i like beckie, even if justin, being from 'our' alternate, is the Anvilicious one, as is the norm with a crosstime traffic book (don't get me started on the 'rome never fell' one where one of the our-timeline protagonists threw up because he was given a fur as a gift. yeah. politics aside...um...ever heard of subtlety, mr. turtledove? to be fair, some of his other stuff, like 'beyond the gap' and possibly its sequels, which i haven't read, aren't as headwally, but...i like the crosstime traffic ones.) ....wooooooow i went on a tangent there.
shall 'post' again tomorrow--internet on the ship is ridiculously expensive, so i'm gonna do a tl dr post when i get home. but i'm writing the posts each night :D

seeya in the new year, all <3

today was a very lazy day :D i slept incredibly late (so late i daresay you would be ashamed of me, even, so i'm not going to specify) then went up to the buffet place for lunch. pizza and garlic bread today. was okay, not as good as some of the other food i've had, but whatever.

camped out in the library again, started watching the plan (see my commentary above), then met my parents for tea at 330. orange spice herbal tea, and there was a very good lemon cake, too :D something i've been wondering--when you host a tea/tea party, where you brew one pot for the whole room, give or take, is there a specific tea you're supposed to serve? i know black tea, yeah, but there's so many different kinds. it boggles the mind. anyone know?

after tea, more hanging out and watching stuff on my laptop (i told you today was lazy) though thus far i did write a little bit of 'for sorrow sung,' at least. dinner at 6--strawberry bisque, spaghetti carbonara, and cherries jubilee. nomnomnom. from there, mom and i went and got pedicures :D where the lady doing it was very good, but made me slightly ashamed of my (nonexistant) beauty regimen XD mom and i bought some stuff that should hopefully help. after that, more camping out at the library, then i went to a comedy show with my dad and had the ship's drink of the day--something called a yellowbird. it had rum and orange juice in it, and i think something with banana and mango? iono, it was fruity and had an umbrella.

the water and wind have been pretty rough today--so much so that they actually cancelled their planned Official Show for tonight, as they felt it would be unsafe for the dancers. it was something to do with jazz. all the rocking's been making me a little lightheaded--not quite nauseous, but lightheaded. i only had the one drink today, so i'm pretty sure that didn't contribute much.

i did manage to finish 'disunited states'. it was all right, i've liked some of his other alternate realities better. ::shrug:: but it kept my attention! which is more than i can say for margaret weis's solo effort. -_- i brought dragonlance too, since i just sat down and watched the animated movie they made of the first book in the series last week. basic impressions boil down to: actually not bad adaptation--they didn't cut any important ploty things or characters. reeeeeally bad animation. especially since the dragons and draconians were all in 3d and everything else was 2d. whoops. i know they were trying to do an Effect there, but it just came off as sloppy. tanis was particularly whiny, tas particularly annoying, sturm kind of out of character, flint, riverwind, and laurana were just kinda there, too much attention was put on caramon lusting after tika and not enough on his relationship with his brother which is, y'know, *his entire storyline,* more or less. raistlin and goldmoon, however, were kiefer sutherland and lucy frakkin' lawless. <3 they were awesome. especially raistlin. seriously, every fight was all:
people--::FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL OH NOES DEAD DRACONIAN TURNED TO STONE AND STOLE MY SWORD::
raistlin--::random magic::
draconians or whatever--::ded::
raistlin--::puts on his 'i'm awesome' smirk::
me--...have i mentioned today that you're awesome?

anyway, teh book i've actually started today is called 'the sultan's seal', historical fiction set in late 19th-century istanbul. a european woman's body was just found. according to the jacket summary, she's a teacher in the sultan's harem. should be interesting!

so! for tomorrow!

-get up in time to have actual breakfast of some kind. or at least lunch somewhere besides the cafe (i told you i was lazy)

-write lots more. less laziness, plz.

-casino night with mom and miranda!

-finish 'sultan's seal'

-maybe go to a show or do karaoke in teh afternoon, if there's anything interesting going on.

day after tomorrow we reach cape canaveral, and i shall learn how to surf. pray for me in retrospect, my friends. it's gonna be....interesting. XD

today! today was...well, about as lazy as yesterday, to be honest XD slept 'til after noon, got up and took a shower, decided lunch was for wusses and went up to the library to watch more bsg. no, i'm not a dork at all, why do you ask XD

at around 315, i decide i was a wuss and went upstairs for some mediocre pizza and an okay turkey wrap. back down to the library again, hanging out and watchin' my show. dinner at 6, with all the family except karl, who got permission to go to the sushi bar with his friends instead. and tonight was the night they gave us a sushi appetizer :D which i didn't have, though my sister did. i had a quesadilla, sicillian style chicken, and cheesecake. <3

after dinner, i met my dad to watch the official show, called 'jazzin'', which was really all about the dancers. two singers, one man, one woman. the man was...okay. he didn't project well on top of not being miked well enough to carry over the (very good) band. the woman was quite good, though kinda a one-trick pony. she didn't vary her singing style based on the song style, which was mild fail, but only from the point of view with someone with my kind of extensive musical background. she was entertaining, and very good at her one style. dancers were all fabulous, and i could do some of the swing they were doing in that section of the portion :D :D :D not all of it, 'cause they were doing some complicated lifts/aerials, which i was never good enough to learn at tj's swing club, alas.

after that, met mom and miranda in the casino for girl's night. which...actually turned out disappointingly lame, mostly 'cause the casino was. i wanted to play hold 'em, dammit, and the closest they had was three-card poker :( (i lost both hands i played). well, it was low stakes, and i did win a little at blackjack. i might go back at some point and use the two 5$ chips i have left. (relax, everyone, i only bought 20$ worth of chips, it's not like i lost a zillion dollars)

we then wandered around to some of the bars, and i had a mai tai, which i'd never had before. it was good! tomorrow, unless the drink of the day is particularly good, i think i'll have one of their drinks, called a 'kiss on the lips'. it has rum and grenadine, so i'm sold XD
mom wanted a mojito, but the bar we got the drinks at was out of mint. so she had the drink of the day, which was a modified pina colada (i don't like coconut, so i didn't try it)

and now i am again camped out at the library, ready for some more bsg-watchings 'til i wander off to bed! i'm up to unfinished business (just watching s3, i have that, the plan, gaeta-bashing, and the miniseries on my hard drive. probably when i finish s3, if i finish, i'll watch victor/victoria. since they opened the show tonight with 'le jazz hot'). i think i'll put my ramblings on that in its own seperate post, along with my stuff on the plan and gaeta-bashing. oh, hey, the piano bar guy next door is doing 'only the good die young' <3 that song :D

tomorrow i shall:

-learn how to surf XD pray for me in retrospect, my friends. i am not a particularly physically-inclined girl, as some of you may know. i shall tell you how it went tomorrow!

-go to another show, if there's anything good playing. otherwise, karaoke again! 'cause that was fun

-more writing on for sorrow sung (for some reason, my fingers typed 'snog' for a minute there. i think i'm drunker than i think i am. which is lame, i only had the one mai tai). i've given up on getting avatar stuff written this week. my head is all bsg, bsg, bsg XD

-do actually do some work on sky children.

-stop getting distracted by cylons in hathor's pocket. because it really is not entertaining picturing her using her date rape breath on ones.

peace out, y'all <3

so, today, i wasn't very lazy! :D mainly because i had to be out the door by ten when the bus left to take us to surf lessons.

that was actually a lot of fun :D i never quite got the hang of standing up on my board, but i didn't fall off very often! only like once or twice :D actually, the biggest fall/hit/whatever was when i was making my way back to where the instructors were helping us catch waves, when i got bowled over by one XD my brother and sister were doing the surf lessons, too. they did better than i did, i think--sister managed to ride all the way back to the beach like six times, and brother at least managed to stand up. i dunno how well he did aside from that.

then the three of us went to the local restaurant that the tour guides had given us 10% off coupon for. i had club wrap, chips and salsa. wrap was very good, salsa was mediocre. my sister and i both had their sort of signature drink--a 'hurricane,' with five categories, each with one more shot of rum than the last. she had category 2, i had category one. it took the waitress a minute to figure out sister's iowa driver's liscence, which i thought was amusing, for some reason.

then we split up--brother and sister went straight back to the beach, but i needed a new swimsuit, so i got one (it's pretty and blue!), then wandered back to the beach and sat and read for a while. went back to the boat around 4, showered, and read and wandered for a bit, 'til dinner. as always, very good--tonight i had cherry soup (which was really a bowl of cream with mild cherry flavoring, but still good), penne pasta with eggplant and zucchini, and baked alaska. <3

from there, to the library to geek out and watch bsg, then i went and got a kiss on the lips (peach schnapps, mango puree, and grenadine smoothie. i wish there was more grenadine, but was still quite good) and went to watch tonight's review show. was called 'wonderful world,' and supposedly showed dances and music from around the world.

...well, here's what we got:

first, an opening number with dancing from various places--i recall russia, which never came up anywhere else, but not much else. from there, we went to paris, with an entertaining cancan sequence, then venice, for a carnival and a song in italian. singers were decent, but their pronunciation was mediocre (same singers as last night. lady singer less of a one-trick pony in her high range, at least, but she's largely a belter). after that, we went to china, india, and japan. pretty fan and sword dancing in the last, the other two were kinda eh. from there we went...i have no idea what the next one was supposed to be :( costumes looked kinda spanish flamenco, headdresses could've been either indian or spanish, music sounded kinda spanish, but the backdrop looked north african. your guess is as good as mine. ::sigh::

after that, ireland and england. good stepdance routine for the former, thinly veiled ripoff of 'step in time' from mary poppins for the latter.

then we went to a sort of...lion king-esque africa. make of that what you will.

then, for some reason, we got the south pole :D penguins! (seriously, they included penguins in this show)

after that, something that was either south america or spain, which only added to my confusion over the mystery dance

then we did america. ...which largely focused on the song 'america' from 'west side story' XD also, streamers shot out over the audience at the end.

and now i am just returned from watching the show--basically, good dancing, okay music, where the hell was australia? D: they included (probably) every other continent to at least some degree, even frickin' penguins danced for us! but no australian dancers. ::sad::

but now i shall go back to watching bsg for a while, 'til i toddle off for more food and/or bed. <3

tomorrow!

-nassau! historical tour and pirate museum :D

-maybe go out on the beach some. it should be pretty!

-write more

-read some. preferably on the beach :D

-karaoke or show in the evening, whatever looks good.
peace out, y'all <3

wheeee!

today was fun!

got up at around 11, went to the library to kill time for an hour or so, then got some lunch and headed out to meet my tour group. historical tour of nassau and pirate museum!

the tour itself was...actually kind of a letdown. we did tour two forts (fort fincastle and fort charlotte, both built by lord dunmore--yes, tigerkat24, that *lord* dunmore. apparently, after he was kicked out of virginia, he became governor of the bahamas XD. fincastle was named after one of his lesser titles. i think viscount?), but most of the rest of the tour was post-independence history, and looking at a couple neighborhoods. also, as we were told three times, nassau is the capital of the bahamas, situated on new providence island, which is 21 miles east-west and seven miles north-south.

the museum was pretty cool. well set up, walking through the revenge, but most of what it was saying i already knew. ::shrug::
from there, i did a little shopping, bought a couple late christmas gifts :D, then back to the ship for dinner--for me, chicken noodle soup, turkey, and lime sherbert. after that, dad and i took another walk, 'cause i wanted to get a particular kind of bahamian tea i saw but hadn't bought earlier for myself. sadly, all the shops were closed, but we wandered for a bit. i'll get it in freeport.

after that, i went to the library and watched some more tv before going to do karaoke again :D got up twice, doing 'lady marmalade' and 'bring me to life'. there was a lower level of talent tonight, but i higher level of people dancing around and having fun onstage, so :D (also 'love story' is now a baltar/caprica song in my head. i'll have to include it on the next mix i'm planning for them. anyone have an mp3 of billy joel's 'blonde over blue?') had a mai tai, which i think was somehow stronger than the one i had the other day, 'cause i'm pretty sure i'm tipsy and it's the only drink i've had today XD

ah, well. tomorrow!

-freeport! swimming with the dolphins all morning (bring a book to read on what i'm sure will be a beautiful bahamian beach) :D

-buy that tea i wanted (vanilla rum tea. it's a black tea, which i don't usually like, but i saw a bunch of different rum teas in the shops, so i imagine it's kind of a bahamian invention/tradition/specialty. and i like the taste of rum, which is probably what i'll get, since the alcohol will basically boil away, so!)

-finish bsg s3

-lots more writing on 'for sorrow sung'! including atia stonewalling poor helo. "i shot myself. i was bored."

-karaoke again if they offer it, or go to a show if it looks good (we leave port at i think 2pm tomorrow)

love to all of you, and i close with the lyrics to the song i want, if anyone has (i sadly only have it on casette) :

some days, when i'm far away
in a lonely room, in a cold seclusion,
some nights, when i'm wound so tight,
there is no release. there is no solution.
in hell, there's a big hotel
where the bar just closed and the windows never open.
no phones, so you can't call home,
and the tv works but the clicker is broken.

but, in the darkness,
i see your light turned on.
you know my weakness.
you know how i respond to

blonde over blue.
your hands are cold. your eyes are fire.
blonde over blue
they shine as though you're burning inside.
one word from you
is all i need to be inspired.
blonde over blue
i need your inspiration tonight.

these days, there's a million ways
to be pulled and torn, to be misdirected.
these times, there are sins and crimes
on the morning shows for the disconnected.
i look, and i write my book,
and i walk away with the wrong impressions.
don't care, 'cause i've done my share
and i need some time for my own obsessions.

it doesn't matter.
i let that life go by.
it's been forgotten,
'cause all i wanted was you.

blonde over blue,
your hands are cold, your eyes are fire.
blonde over blue
they shine as though you're burning inside.
one word from you
is all i need to be inspired.
blonde over blue,
i need your inspiration tonight.

these days, not a damn soul prays
and there is no faith, 'cause there's nothing to believe in.
these days, only good luck pays.
if we don't get paid, then we try to get even.
i look, and i write my book,
and i have my say, and i draw conclusions.
some nights, when i'm wound so tight
there is no release. there is no solution.

but in the darkness,
i see your light turned on.
you know my weakness
you know how i respond to

blonde over blue
your hands are cold. your eyes are fire.
blonde over blue
they shine as though you're burning inside.
one word from you
is all i need to be inspired.
blonde over blue
i need your inspiration tonight.

....yeah, see why i want to include it?

peace out, y'all <3

happy new year, my lovelies!

as i write this, it is...1241, 1/1/11 ((hee, the date amuses me :D ))

let's see, what did i do today...

dolphin swim! :D it was fun! we played with kayla and rubala (guessing on the spellings here). and we got hugs and kisses from...one of them. i don't remember which. we got to swim around in a pool with them (it was cold at first, but not so bad once you got moving). dolphins are slippery, and a little squishy, and they get bumpy when they tilt their heads back to use their blowholes :D
when i first got in the water, whichever one i ended up swimming with--rubala, i think, but i'm not positive--splashed me. i guess to say hi? :D

it was even fun to watch the other half of our group (there were 11 of us, and they only let six in the water at a time) play with them before we got our chance to go in. :D

from there, back to the boat, which we had to be on by 130. we got back to the harbor at around 115, and i checked the harbor shops real quick, but they didn't have the tea i wanted :( i will try to order it online, though. (was hoping not to, 'cause shipping will probably be a bitch and a half).

apparently, my family all gathered at the buffet and had lunch, but by the time my sister got back to our room and let me know and i got up there (i was the last back on the boat, due to shop-explorations, and then took a shower), i couldn't find any of them.

also, brother lost his wallet at the dolphin place -_-;; we know he had it by the time we were done, since he bought a hot dog at their food stand and oh! there were birds, too! i got to hold a cockatoo and a blue and gold macay :D (not sure on the spelling of those birdies, but they were pretty!)

after lunch, i hung out in the library, watching crossroads, then met up with the family for dinner. champagne soup, shrimp, and pineapple sherbert tonight :D also, pomtini

then i went to do karaoke! with cds, not the live band. it was fun for the first hour/hour and a half, then like 2/3 of the people left to go to the comedy show. it's just not as much fun when there's like five people in the room and you're basically taking turns with one of them. ah, well.

then i finished crossroads and did a bit of writing, before heading to my parents' room for champagne. :D then i went to the smaller of the two parties on the boat, in the atrium, and saw in the new year :D went to the buffet, got some very nommy little sammiches and a soda (i couldn't find any of the free champagne people, and i'm only allowed to buy one drink a day, since my ship spending account is tied to mom's credit card, so ::shrug:: )

now i'm back here, gonna goof off 'til i feel like going to bed.
tomorrow!

-sleep late and be laaaazy 'cause i can and it's our last day on the boat

-write--having finished s3, i no longer have an excuse not to meet my goal in 'for sorrow sung'

-fiddle with the three mixes i'm building a bit

-finish 'lady elizabeth'

-go to a show or something tomorrow night

-pack, so i'm not scrambling in the morning.

i think that's about it :D peace out, y'all. shall see you in a couple days!

happy 2011 \o/

evenin', y'all!

today! what did i do today...

well, i slept 'til about 11ish, read in my room for a while, then wandered out to read by a window. at lunch with my parents in the main restaurant--antipasto plate (mostly good, but included salmon, which i don't like, so i skipped that part), a burger, and an ice cream sundae.

read a bit more, then went to the library and goofed off on my computer. also have finished up through the end of ch 2 in for sorrow sung (yeah, i'm behind <.< )

went to my room at 545 and did most of my packing--left out my toiletries and pjs and clothes for tomorrow. and my coat, 'cause we'll be in baltimore and it'll be cold. ::sigh::

from there, dinner. mango ginger soup, fettucine with chicken and mushroom cream sauce, and souffle. all good ^^

wandered into the casino a bit. lost my last two five dollar chips playing blackjack, then wandered out again.

then back to the library, then i went to the comedy show ^_^ it was fun! had a drink they called a riviera delight--it had rum and vodka and i think melon liquer and pineapple juice and a couple other things? ah, who cares, it had booze, pineapple, and no coconut

\o/

and now i'm back in the library, gonna chill 'til i feel like bed. we have to be out of our rooms at i think 9 am tomorrow, when they'll start the disembarking process. which apparently will take a while. ::sighs:: ah, well. and, from there, we drive home. and i will have internet! and be able to actually post all these ^_^ have to stop by my target at some point to check my schedule and see when i'm working next week (i requested the 2nd off, so i'm good there, at least.)

ah, well. shall see y'all tomorrow, hopefully <3 peace out and happy new year :D

and now, my various bsg-type ramblings :D be warned, there will be spoilers in these, if you haven't seen. i'm going to put things under separate cuts, to try and help with that.

HOMGFELIXANDHOSHIARECUUUUUUUUUUUUTE. and i know how this ends, so...yeah. stupid sexy eights. onto part two!

hoshi is too damn adorable. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 "I KNOW I CAN FIND FELIX" ...yeah, i'm probably gonna be doing a lot of that in this commentary XD also, tigh's face as he put the pieces together: "...GAH. i don't need to be thinking about you two...doing things...whenever i see you together on the bridge DX"

poor cannon-fodder eight. ::pats her crispyfried head:: no adorable hoshi in part three, sadly. also, the timeline now confuses the frak out of me. 15 months before discovering earth 1.0 was some time during the occupation. which i assumed ended roughly a year before crossroads, and then seasons 4 and 4.5 together took up another year. blah. i'll think this through when i'm no longer tipsy. next!

d'awwww, adama granted lieutenant adorable's request :D :D :D this pleaseth me. also, maybe it's 'cause i know how it all works out, but...something about sweet eight's face seems vicious. maybe it's because she's kind of acting more like a six than an eight...iono. though that does make sense, since the webseries was originally written with two sixes in mind, rather than two eights. anyway. moving on.

...okay. um. felix. darling. i love you. you know i love you. but i really don't need to see you picking at your stump and shooting up. thank you. also, *damn* you got yourself some purty eyelashes.

...so, am i the only one who took the plugging sweet eight in dialogue out of context and loled? "it helps if someone else puts it in" "ooh, it's making me feel lightheaded" also, felix, if you have someone, why are you kissing her? sigh.

hoshi, you're still adorable. sweet eight, you're still creepy. IN THE END THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. not much else to say about this segment

HOSHI, COME TO MY BOSOM. felix will be there, too. sweet eight, stop being creepy.

y helo thar, flashback jesusbaltar. y'know, he's got a point, felix. he may be bugfuck insane and a dirty rotten coward, but he's not stupid. also, the lighting is not helping with the creepiness of sweet eight. oh, good, gaeta went with the throatstabby. and this time he didn't miss. no longer butterfingers ^_^

::loves aaaaaaaaaaall over hoshi:: though still not down with the whole watching-gaeta-shoot-up bit.

so, in conclusion: sweet eight is creepy as all fuck, hoshi is adorable, felix is now broken beyond repair, and the timeline makes no sense in my head now. ::sighs and cuddles hoshi some more::

....so, watching the plan, and just had to interject with ::cuddles fleet!four:: and some funny dialogue:

"Are you attracted to [Baltar]?"
"No!"
"Because that other Six was addicted to him."
"I am not addicted!"
Then, a few scenes later:
"And my sister Six utterly failed to discredit Gaius Baltar and his dreamy hair."

One: What are [Starbuck and Anders] doing now?
Four: You really need a doctor telling you that?
One: Why?
Four: He loves her. Vigorously.
One: She's beneath him.
Four: ::listens for a minute:: Not necessarily.

...whatever happened to prostitute!six? we saw shelly get airlocked, we saw what happened to the two ones we were following, and the two fours, and the two (we even got to learn how he got himself so obsessed with starbuck!), and the fives (no threes in the movie, huh), and a lot with boomer (though i could've done without seeing her snogging a one ::shudder:: ). mostly, the movie was about the two ones, though. which is fine, dean stockwell is awesome. but there were two sixes (well, and a white-coat six at the end on caprica; the movie just covered the first two seasons). there was shelly godfrey, who we saw (and we saw how she escaped, which was Clever--prostitute!six wore a shelly wig and distracted the marines following her, and cavil grabbed her, then presumably she took off the wig and melted into the crowd. then we saw her in bed with cavil, boozing, and explaining how everyone else failed, then nothing. cavil later says to tyrol that everyone had failed him, but *we don't know what happened to prostitute!six.* explain, mr. olmos! EXPLAIN!

also, apparently fleet!leoben was the minister of defense's yoga instructor XD

so, rewatching some early season three, and it's...very interesting. it's the scene in 3.02 where baltar signs the death list. after caprica is shot in the head, and one of the fives has a gun at his now, he starts in on his hallucination bit, as he does. the realworld scenes are all in grayish blue light, and the hallucinations--which are him at the desk and headsix sitting on it, urging him to sign--are in reddish orange. eeeeenteresting. and then his face when he looks down and realized he's already signed...wow. mr. callis, you are awesome. seriously. i mean, whatever we may think about baltar--dirty rotten coward that he is--he's probably one of the hardest characters on the show to play. only the cylon models have more varied personality/lifestyles. (also, he was written as a serious character. for the shift we are very grateful to you, mr. callis).

okay. just gotta say something. i know fat lee was a dumbass move--with a few exceptions (crossroads and a couple others) we like lee silent and decorative, preferably with his shirt off. getting rid of the excess weight as fast as possible makes sense, and is appreciated on one level.

but.

as someone who took a year to lose about twenty pounds (which isn't much slower than the general safe weightloss rate anyway, you don't want to lose much more than 4-6 pounds a month if you want to do it healthily) and has dealt with being overweight for my whole life...lee loses the weight over the course of a couple weeks, maybe a month on the outside.

....

*weightloss does not work like that.* especially after 4+ months of binge-eating habit-forming that led to fat lee in the first place. this still bothers me. >.<

...y'know, i don't much care for ellen tigh. (or saul tigh, for that matter, but that's for entirely different reasons, and i appreciate his Awesome in later seasons, even if i don't like him very much. ...anyway, back on topic). i don't like ellen much. or at all. but her death scene is still one of the hardest for me to watch. :( ...i wonder if the line is "i finally got to the one in charge" or "i finally got to the One in charge". hard to tell, from kate vernon's delivery. ah, well, idle curiousity, it doesn't really matter. also, it says something about her that she overemphasizes the screwing-a-cylon bit over the handing-over-the-map bit. huh. possibly due to her long history of cheating, and she wants to make sure saul knows how much fidelity means to her now. ah, well. i think part of it might be i have no idea whether or not she knows it's poison, and i'm not sure which would be worse

...for as creepy as the whole situation is, i kinda have a sort of fondness for leoben/kara <.<

cally looks reeeeeeeeally young. o.O

so, rewatching these, the whole 'three suddenly wants to sex baltar instead of torturing him' makes a little more sense. since they actually started setting it up right in the first episode of third season: caprica--gaius is with me. ::turns to glare at three:: anyone who wants to challenge that...will deal with me. and a few other things--when three gives him his pills, she lingers on his hand just a few seconds longer than necessary, she's the one who tells him there'll be a place on the basestar for him...i mean, the shift still makes little to no sense--he reciprocates your lust, therefore he's trustworthy, and you go for sex rather than torture? but at least there's some setup for it. as for the vote to keep him there, i'm guessing it fell along the lines of the later rebellion, only with the threes taking the sixes' place, since they're the swing vote right now. which there was foundation for in earlier episodes--not all the sixes approve of caprica's "obsession" with baltar.

oookay. some of this 'tigh putting himself back together' stuff i don't mind watching--the bit with the cigarette ("i see it"), even the drinking and stirring up discontent i don't mind so much. but. um. must you cuddle your dead wife's underwear? DX

you know, i am very grateful to the bsg folk for not giving kara a Pregnancy Drama subplot.

i find myself wondering what the Resurrection Goop really was...it doesn't look too comfortable. like egg, almost.

i love how, when baltar starts in on the threesome bit with d'anna and caprica, his bed gets upgraded XD

so, trying to pinpoint when they decided who the final five were. i think chief had been decided as of the algae planet two-parter. (episodes i downloaded totally legally no really don't have the episode titles in the filenames. i'll have to look up a list later.)

you know what i don't get? why did athena cut her hair the same time all the other eights did? you'd think, if anything, once she realized they had the same haircut, she'd make a radical change again, to differentiate herself. ::sigh::

and this death scene for athena is as hard to watch as ellen's death. i think the only reason it doesn't top it is because of helo's somewhat narmy scream just before the cut to opening credits. that, and it make me wonder--is athena no longer immune to the virus?

i wonder how hard tricia helfer made it for people to ignore her. (i mean, besides the sexy bandage dress)

resurrection goo really does look like egg whites.

aaaaaand now i'm up to the creepy torture episode. joy.

because YEAH, fucking with baltar's already-shaky headspace is NEVER gonna bite you in the ass. >.< this really bothers me. especially because adama even says it's dangerous 'especially for someone in baltar's condition.' so they know how batshit he is, and that this might drive him so far around the bend that you'll lose what little you might get from him. argh. (plus it's really really really really creepy to watch D: )

kandyse mcclure is sooooooooooo purtiful

...it's kinda sad that, creepy as the torture sequences are, i'd rather watch them then the sam/starbuck/lee/dee love story -_-;;

i can't imagine james callis had much fun shooting this episode. either he's tied up or he's in water. ...the naked tricia helfer in the water probably helped, but still.

OH GOD CREEPY BURNED CHILDREN PETTING HIM IN A RESURRECTION TANK OHGODOHGODOHGODOHGOD

THANK YOU, doctor cottle

mr olmos, why did you decide to edit these two conversations together? i don't care about lee and dee's failing marriage. interspersing lee begging her to stay with gaeta trying to get baltar to talk is annoying. if i could tell what you were getting at, it wouldn't bother me so much.

he's not dumb, you guys. whatever else you think about him, you know that he's not dumb.

hokay. we are now past the creeptastic torture episode (fuck you very much, mr olmos-the-director, for giving us creepy and annoying. stupid leedeekarasam.) next is...i'm not exactly sure. i know 3.16 is dirty hands and 3.19/20 are crossroads, but this'll be 3.14, sooo...well, woman king is coming up at some point in there DX god i hate that episode. but it's one i can't skip, unfortunately. ::sigh:: ...wait, i think 17 is maelstrom and 18 is son also rises. so...either 14 or 15 is woman king. no idea what the other is.

...oh, fuck, the previously-on clips are all about helo. DX i think this is 'woman king' ::flaaaaaaail::

it is woman king. ::cries:: i really fucking hate this episode. buut since for sorrow sung starts in dogsville, i have to watch it. ignoring the (lack of) continuity, obvs, but getting an idea of the 'official' canon setup of the place, at least DX

::shakes fist at michael angeli and michael rymer:: writer and director, folks. they're the ones responsible.

i think what gets at me most about woman king and black market is that they could have been really really good episodes! the concepts are there--underworld of the fleet economy + murder mystery; plague among the civillians + colony faultlines + bigoted doctor--they're just done so frakking badly. black market might have been saved with another protagonist (i vote starbuck). woman king could only be saved by massive overhaul and writing by someone who could, oh, i don't know, keep people in character. for crying out loud!
argh, look, i don't like tigh very much. but he really didn't need to regress half a season in his character development for this episode >.<

also, cottle is a crotchety bastard, but not *willfully blind and mean.* goddammit, i hate this episode.

blah. at least the bits with caprica and head!baltar were nice. and athena was vaguely in character in those scenes. ::sigh::

...huh. bsg used to air right before dresden files. this pleases me for some reason :D

...oh, right. next comes the adama!happyplace one. with the imainary dead wife. ...i'm not particularly fond of this one. ah, well.

...carolann looks oddly like a three o.O seriously. same face shape, similar eyes....now it's going to be all i can think about for this entire episode DX

oh, i guess this is where chief and cally get trapped in the airlock and starbuck has to rescue them from outside or something. ::sigh:: i love the chief, but there are better him-centric episodes. and the adama plotline is just weeeeeird. ::sulks:: at least it's not a bad episode, like the last one >.< ...and theoretically i could skip this one, but...i am trying to rewatch all of them.

i don't dislike some of the other stand-alone ones--i actually really like hero, and i love dirty hands, and scar is another good one, and the passage is very well-done (though does that count? i dunno. maybe.) ...i don't know why i don't like this one very much. i mean, i know why i dislike black market and that Other One, but...
as for this one...i don't hate it, i just don't like it very much.

okay, that little bit of mom'n'dad cuteness might've redeemed this episode from its utter meh.

...also, the carolann hallucinations don't really fit the tone of the show. they feel out of place.

alsoalso, nicholas tyrol is too damn adorable. like, hoshi-level adorable. only a baby.

ah, yes, the mom'n'dad cuteness that is more or less a blatant mutual "do me" conversation. :D :D :D

oh, and there's the out-of-place carolann hallucination to kill the happy -_-;;

and now dirty haaaaaaaands :D :D :D :D :D i love this episode

"if the quarters become cramped, you're always welcome in one of my beds." oh, adama <3 <3 <3 he meant the innuendo there, too. i just know it.

...well, i'd mention that boomer was nominally from aerilon (or an aerilon outpost) but...yeah. bad example.

y'know, i'm sure baltar has imagined roslin stripping him/having him stripped many, many times, and is trying so hard not to think of those fantasies XD

mmmmmmmmmmmtheaaaaaaaaaaaccent :D :D :D

...oh, crap, i vaguely remember a bloody Accident D: i don't wanna see that

and here it comes DX

and it's the cute notfarmer boy DXDXDX

...ten bucks says starbuck and chief tyrol planned the bit with ensign seelix at the end :D

...oh. maelstrom. this is the one where starbuck officially stopped making sense. ...okay, to be fair, crossroads is probably when she stopped making since, since here she just died.

...painty dreamsex with leoben. ...all righty, then.

this is not the same oracle d'anna saw. wonder what happened to her. probably nothing good. ::sadfais::

i liked d'anna's oracle better

...dammit, i thought creepy torture episode closed the book on the kara/lee drama argh why is it baaaaaaaack.

...i want a quesadilla. sadly, i will not be able to get one tonight :( /random

i still find it amusing that the second half of third season aired immediately before the dresden files tv show XD

also, i take it back. this is the episode where kara completely stopped making sense. ::sigh:: ah, well. nice knowing you, likeable, sense-making starbuck. ::pats her on the head then runs away fast::

i actually really like leoben. <3 i think he's my favorite cylon. except possibly lida.

...to quote the nostalgia critic, referring to lee during this starbuck death scene: i'm ACTING. ::facepalm::

...huh. sploded viper looks like fireworks. ^___^

and now EJO gives the show's insurers several heart attacks :D byebye wooden ship!

onto the son also rises and BADGER!

oh, drunken!sam. you are adorable :D also, points for the obscure stoppard reference ^____^

"you won the lottery. you now own exactly one fifth of baltar's skinny ass." i still love that line. <3 <3 <3 tigh does get some good ones, the bastard.

goodbye, mr. hughes. we hardly knew ye. but i am giving you a personality through fic, so i actually do. ;_;

BADGER! :D :D :D

...why is helo the only one in the briefing (besides lee) wearing the blue uniform instead of a flight suit?

"lance belonged to my wife. don't worry, he doesn't scratch or bite, like she did." <3 badger

...huh. the same guy responsible for That Other Episode wrote this one.

wow. lee actually does look a fair amount like caprica!joseph. :D this pleaseth me.

ten bucks says baltar just misses his girlfriend. knows he's dead either ways.

badger's the only other person who pronounces baltar's name the way he himself does. huh.

oh, dear, there's the boomboom. luckily lance discovers it before badger gets sploded.

...um, bill, that's not what lee was saying. he was saying that *he processes grief differently than you do,* not that your grief was somehow less.

iirc, it's mcgursky doing this. the guy who's been random deckhand #324 for the past several episodes.

huh. baltar got his furniture back. last time we were in his cell, all he had was a mattress.

this is the first time lampkin took off his glasses. interesting ^^

ahaha, badger and his sticky fingers :D

"now, this cross-examination is over. i'd like to take a crap." <3 badger

oh, guess not. was the other guy, the one in the blue uniform surrounded by the deckhands in the orange outfits. ...mcgursky would've been better, since he wasn't introduced solely in this episode. ::sigh::

crossroads :D trial time! ...and some stuff about cylons. but who cares about that? GIMME MY COURTROOM DRAMAS :D

oh, right. the shared dreams start here.

...huh. no usual opening credits. weird.

y'know, it's kinda odd. tory doesn't really do much before figuring out she's a cylon. i mean, she's been barely there this entire season.

JEANNE! <3 jeanne

"celebrity trials bring out the crazies." ...because you're the picture of sanity, doctor? uh-huh. that's what i thought.

i do actually like the prosecutor. i mean, she's no jack mccoy, but she's not bad ^^

it would have been awesome if sam waterston had done this, though. fill my little geeky heart with gleeeee

...maybe it's because i'm considering 'i can't decide' for a bsg mix i'm putting together, but the fact that the number dead/missing/lost/whatever from new caprica is roughly decimating the population (well, more like 12%, but close enough (yes, i did the math. shut up.)) and my brain went doctor who. ::dooooooooooooooork::

prosecutor lady's opening argument was good, but badger's is more effective. prosecutor lady came off as cold and dispassionate, so it's hard to sympathize with her and her cause, even when everything she said was absolutely true, and what badger says is all smoke and mirrors. shows something about what people respond to. which he knows and is, y'know, his entire strategy. ...i wonder what hughes's strategy would've been.

HEADBALTAR

...also, i see athena failed to follow through on her promise to get caprica new clothes.

i wonder if they decided on tory, tigh, and sam before crossroads--i mean, in retrospect, they'd probably settled on the chief at least as of the algae planet. tigh was likely chosen for Irony factor--biggest bigot in the fleet, more or less. then sam probably so all three of the main resistance leaders could be cylons--completion plus irony. then tory 'cause they wanted a high-ranked civillian to round out the group, and wanted to save the possibility of roslin for a bigger bombshell later, building up to the last of the final five.

...okay, for crying out loud, if the cylons wanted a surrender, they would've gone right down the chain of command until they found someone who would, if baltar had said no. ::sigh

baltar--you know something and you're not saying.
lee--it's probably not even true
badger ((yes, he has a bsg name. i even know what it is--romo lampkin. i still call him badger.))--ooh, i like it already.

"you're my oldest friend, saul. you never embarass me." <33333333333333333333333

i wish i had a better idea of how much time passed during this two-parter. obviously long enough for sam's broken leg to heal and him to finish flight training, but...blah.

::flails at the kind of pointless rift between lee and bill:: i get where both of them are coming from, but it feels blown entirely out of proportion by both of them, in ways that are slightly off to me. especially given how far they've come in the past two/three years >.<

oh, lee. you're so adorable, you and your delusions of playing lawyer <3

now, see, at this point, i could see the rift building up. but not earlier, not even when lee resigned his comission (which he only did because of the rift, anyway, and--) argh. it kind of feels like drama for the sake of drama, because it worked in the miniseries/season 1. ::sigh:: then lee lowblows roslin and it's Drama with an actual point, but ::flails::

ladyjudge seems actually impartial. or at least trying her damnedest to be genuinely impartial. ::huggles:: i like her.

"madam president, how long do you have to live?"
"how long do you have to live, karen?"
good answer.

this can't have been much fun for michael hogan. the eyepatch, i mean. i get lightheaded sometimes when i only have one contact in, and he'd be completely blind in one eye. ...unless it's a material he can see through, but can't be seen through from the outside, like reaper hoods on halloween costumes? hrm.

see? SEE? even the people who put together the previously-on clips think that the adama rift makes more sense after lee's cross-examination of roslin. >.< ::FLAIL::

no usual opening credits for part 2, either. huh.

...i love this early morning phone call the episode starts with. socute :D :D :D

....saaaaaaaaaaaaaam. why are you frakking tory? granted, she's hot, but at this point in the series, she has basically no personality. and later, we learn she's a cold bitch. i mean, you're livewire starbuck's widower, why are you turning to tory for sex?

"you get back to your life, you get back to...wherever it is you get back to, and i get back to a cell!" oh, baltar. though i honestly can't blame him for wanting it to be over, one way or the other.

okay, so this point, where same is talking to the chief, is probably fourish weeks after the beginning of the trial, since it takes ~6 weeks for a broken leg to heal, yes? and 'son also rises' was two weeks before said beginning. hrm.

"will someone please tell me what the hell is going on?" i'm so sorry, cottle, but i don't think that's gonna happen. ::pets him::

and now comes the bit where felix lies through his teeth and we get one of the funniest lines in the series, courtesy of one dr. gaius baltar:
"the whole FLEET knows this man tried to stab me through the neck. and you MISSED. BUTTERFINGERS!"
i love that line.

the funny thing is, the judge badger's saying has already determined baltar's guilt? is one of the three that votes to aquit him XD

okay, lee, you can put your shirt on and start talking now, 'cause you have a very good point to make.

...huh. lee wasn't sworn in.

so...um...prosecutor lady said lee's speechifying should be saved for closing statements. except there were no closing statements. lampkin said defense rests, then ladyjudge said the panel would deliberate. o...kay, then?

oh, man, look at his face when the verdict is read. he doesn't quite know what to feel.

and now he bullshits and pretends he was sure all along XD which badger appropriately mocks him for ^_^

oh, roslin. you insisted on a trial, and now you're cranky 'cause you didn't get the verdict you wanted. ::pets her::

oh, dear. power failures D:

HI JEANNE!

there must be some way out of here
said the joker to the thief
too much confusion here
i can't get no relief...

actually, for all i really dislike him, i really admire the way tigh handles this. i'd honestly have expected him to completely self-destruct, but he's all 'frak that. i'm saul tigh, i'm an officer in this fleet, and that's the man i'm gonna be, damn it.'

and there you are, starbuck, no longer making sense. ::sigh::

Love Story is freaking awesome. I love Taylor Swift. No judgment. Although... can't quite see it as a Baltar/Caprica song. Actually can't quite see it as a BSG song at ALL. Too happy (says the girl who is convinced that Walking On Sunshine is a New Caprica-era Roslin/Adama song...).

Regarding tea parties, I think it's whatever kind of tea the host prefers. Black tea is the standard, but there's no standard variety of black tea, although I think orange pekoe may be the most common...? They served about three kinds of tea the one time I got to go to the Ritz for High Tea. I should do that again sometime. It was awesome.

LORD DUNMORE IS EVERYWHERE. EVERYWHEEEEEERE. YOU CANNOT ESCAPE HIS BEADY-EYED GAZE.

I don't have Blonde Over Blue, but I think I could get it for you if you give me a little time. Also, can I pick your brain regarding pirates? I have an EPIC PIRATE AU (it must always be written in all caps) that needs writing and I'd like to get at least some of the details right, even if it is essentially crack.

Is the "Lady Elizabeth" you mentioned the book by Alison Weir? If so, how is it? She's one of my favorite historians, but I was disappointed in the one fiction novel of hers that I've read.

Okay, splitting this comment up here because otherwise it's too long.

[identity profile] shadowsong26.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, it is the one by allison weir. um...well, for starters, she includes the apocryphal story about elizabeth getting pregnant by katherine parr's fourth husband, but says in her author's not at the end that "i don't think it's true, i just thought it would be Dramatic".
which one of her fiction books have you read?

it's mostly the bridge of 'love story' that hits me. "i got tired of waiting/wondering if you were ever coming around./my faith in you was fading/when you met me on the outskirts of town." it's definitely at their happy ending part, but still, i see your point.

and yes of course you can pick my brain about pirates :D

comment part 2!

HOSHI AND FELIX ARE SO ADORABLE. Half the reason I cried for Felix in the mutiny arc was Hoshi. HOSHI IS SO CUTE FELIX. WHY DID YOU DEPRIVE HIM OF YOUR CUTENESS. BAD FELIX NO COOKIE.

I don't understand fat!Lee. I don't understand any of the thinking that went into that. Generally I prefer to fast-forward through any of the scenes dealing with that and get back to the Roslin/Adama EPIC SEASON OF FLIRTING.

More bad ideas: the Sam/Kara/Lee/Dee love...shape... thing. Only got worse when they threw Torey in there. NO. THANKS. MOAR ROSLIN/ADAMA.

I can sort of understand the torturing Baltar bit. It's meant, I think, to show Roslin slipping, and to show Adama (in some ways) acting as a break on her slippery slope. I mean, he's the one who keeps reminding her that it's a bad idea and could have bad repurcussions, and he's the one who has Cottle sit in, so he can stop them. It's setting up their partnership more, and, yes, letting us see James Callis get beaten up, because he is so good at that.

Woman King does not exist. 'Nuff said. There were some random scenes that took place in Dogville floating around, but no one knows what episode they were filmed for, because surely that episode would have been terrible and we're all glad it doesn't exist.

Dirty Hands is awesome, though, and I will fight anyone who says different. I also love Hero, but for other reasons ("Here is my resignation and I'll be taking myself off n--" "Siddown, Bill." "..." *sits*).

AHAHAHAHAHA THE ADAMA!HAPPYPLACE ONE oh man. That episode is such magnificent crack. Also kind of hilarious because you know it's canon when his flipping hallucinatory ex-wife ships it. XDXDXD I kind of love it for its crackiness, gotta say. Also, yes, for the mutual "do me already" conversation, because seriously, Bill, we all know y'all were doing it on New Caprica. Just do Laura already. SHE CANNOT MAKE IT MORE OBVIOUS UNLESS SHE STARTS STRIPPING OKAY. And that might traumatize her aides.

The Marines have probably seen worse.

He totally meant the innuendo. THEY ARE TOTALLY DOING IT. Have been since New Caprica. Is trufax.

James Callis's Yorkshire accent deserves an Emmy all its own.

The wooden ship scene makes me LOL. Which is an inappropriate reaction, but seriously, guys, you know that EJO has a tendency to do things like random death glares and randomly snogging Mary McDonnell (although that one's understandable, because who wouldn't) and stuff he thinks would make the show better, so you should tell him if there's shit you don't want him to break. Like, before he breaks it.

Yeeeeeeah Lee lowblowing Roslin was a stupid move as regards his father, although it made some legal sense, I think. I mean, if you want to reconcile with your father, outing his girlfriend on the stand IN FRONT OF A COURTROOM is, um, not wise. I can see why he did it legally, but I also got the feeling there was some Righteous Vindication in there.

Adama totally already knew, though. He didn't look surprised, just heartbroken.

Also, I love that Roslin is just cranky. I mean, she's angry with Adama, but it isn't, like, rage, and they get past it very quickly. She's cranky because she didn't get her verdict, but something deep down inside her knows he's right and admits it and GAH THEY ARE SO PERFECT TOGETHER. Man. *heartclutch*

Also, Tigh's handling the whole Cylon thing is the most awesome thing in that entire subplot. Go Tigh. We love you, bb!

Welcome home! Happy new year!

Re: comment part 2!

[identity profile] shadowsong26.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
fat!lee i sort of get why it happened--because that actually kind of *is* a realistic breakdown. it's just the way they resolved it and got back to the status quo that pisses me off.

to be fair, adding tory to the love shape thing didn't happen 'til after starbuck exploded, so...blah. it's still annoying.

oh, i get why the torture is included, for all the reasons you put in. i can even see the motivations behind doing it, but it's just...stupid.

i love hero. i love bulldog, i love the way it completes the tigh-putting-himself-back-together arc (which totally is never undone, because That Episode doesn't exist), and i love the siddown bill bit you mentioned :D

yeah, i get what you're saying about the happyplace one. it just...doesn't fit, the hallucinations, there are better chief/cally-centric episodes, and *carolann looks like a freaking three*. i still can't get over that.

yeah, the lowblow does make legal sense. that whole subplot i'm more annoyed that the progression doesn't make sense (i mean, the lee-falling-out-with-his-father subplot).

and *yes*, the crankiness is perfect and exactly the right reaction. it just amused me while i was watching it for some reason.

and thank you ^_^ happy new year to you, too :D
