^^
1/8/12
back to classes today--sunday-thursday. the new book is much much much much better. at least it's less intimidating.
after class, we went to parliament and were able to spend an hour and a half-two hours talking with three parliament representatives about all kinds of things--regional politics, more global stuff, internal workings of the jordanian government/elections. i took about six pages of notes that i can now barely read, but i'll have fun trying to decode them later :D all three of them were very nice, though one of the two men barely said anything.
after that, we got to see the parliament dome, where the two houses (senate, sixty members appointed by the king, and parliament, 120 elected representatives) meet. we didn't get to see a session, unfortunately, but tons of pictures were taken, and we got to ask a few more questions about how the government generally runs, from a parliamentary PR guy who showed us around.
after that, back to the hotel to get our cultural interaction assignment for tomorrow--going to a restaurant and a coffee shop to ask about prices/varieties of tea/coffee etc. then back to the room to finish up homework and hang out with the others.
hope you all are well ^^
