The Institute Files
This is primarily for people on rainbowfic, I'm doing a post like this for each of the four worlds I'll be working in...just basic information.
The Institute Files are not a traditional narrative as such (mostly because I haven't found one yet for this world), but a collection of short stories centering around the titular Institute, which researches paranormal activities and beings, as well as various psychic powers.
The Institute started sometime in the 19th century as the International Paranormal Investigative Consortium. At that point, they mostly worked in the background, identifying and keeping track of all sorts of paranormal activities and events, and only interfering when it was necessary to save lives. By the end of the 21st century, the Institute was a lot more centralized and proactive, holding and experimenting on various creatures and people with psychic powers. The general goal of the Institute is to keep the existence of such beings and powers from becoming common knowledge, and introducing any widely-applicable products of their research into the world with great care, so as not to shatter the illusion and cause who knows what kind of trouble.
As this isn't a traditional narrative and has so far short stories from back when it was IPIC stretching all the way into the 23rd century, I don't really have main characters in this 'verse. Subjects are identified by numbers, staff members by their jobs.
