This is primarily for people on rainbowfic, I'm doing a post like this for each of the four worlds I'll be working in...just basic information.
(also, this 'verse doesn't have a title yet)
Mages in this world are universally derided. Some of that may have to do with a self-contradictory prophecy--the typical Chosen One Will Destroy The World As We Know It To Save It type--some of it may have to do with the non-mage majority not wanting to lose their power. How far this goes varies depending on nation.
Our main character, Jeth, comes from a nation where all mages are killed. He is a mage, who fits most aspects of the prophecy. He got very attached to the idea of himself as the chosen one...until the true Chosen One, Anya, takes the stage and proceeds to pretty much walk over as many people as she looks out for, including Jeth.
The third principle character is Jeth's eventual love interest, Marron. He's from one of the nations that's gentler to mages, and was a political prisoner for advocating for equal rights when Anya found him. He and Jeth, on Anya's instructions, found a school for freemages.
Magic in this world involves a mage having three powers, one each from three families--elemental, psychic/non-elemental traditional magic, and other. Jeth's powers are earth, foresight, and binding. Marron's are fire, healing, and linking. Anya's are air, necromancy, and memory. Combining different powers can mimic others. For example, between earth and binding magic, Jeth can heal broken bones, even if he can't heal much else. Linking two mages together can amplify their powers and allow each to draw on the other's.
The narrative is essentially Jeth's story of his role in the background as Anya saves the world. ...also, I have almost none of it actually written down <.< >.> So, unlike the others, there's not much more detail I can share than what's here.
