hi everybody!

1/15/12
after class today, we went back to hashem, which does a combo special with hummus, foule, bread, and some other stuff that's really cheap and soo delicious. seriously, there were 10 of us and it was only 13 dinar (less than $20).
after that, we split up to do our language socialization assignments--je and h are in the advanced class and had a different one, and the eight of us in intermediate sort of naturally split into two groups. ...whch met up a while later and split into three slightly different groups.
then something kind of weird but kind of awesome happened--i was with d and ka at this point, and ka was trying to find handmade scarves, so we went to like five different places. eventually, we found one that sold them (or at least the embroidery on them was hand-sewn, i don't know if the scarves themseves are hand-woven, but ka seemed satisfied with that). anyway, the guy who ran the shop said he recognized me, and i was kind of confused, and apparently he'd seen me on tv two months ago playing violin. or someone who looks very much like me, anyway.
...this is decidedly odd, and i think it was someone who just looked like me, since i've only been filmed as part of an orchestra and even that was at least six years ago, so i doubt he would recognize me from the 30ish seconds at most i'd've been onscreen, but still. kinda weird. ^^
though the other fun thing about that shop was that he and his sons were some of the few people i've met who can pronounce my name on the first try/without seeing it written. even ustatha nadia and ustath mohammed weren't able to until getting my first written assignment handed in. just an interesting tidbit ^^
hope you all are well, and looking forward to seeing everyone again when i get back <3
